Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. 1981 she started covering at the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional Correspondent. She was made the chief White House correspondent in 1992. And Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable reports, including weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
